Social norms

I have never been able to understand the concept of doing the done thing specially in India. The pressure of blindly following social norms at the cost of one’s own happiness and piece of mind is something that I have never been able to make peace with.We as individuals need to live and let live. We need to mind our own business instead of meddling in other people’s lives. We should never judge anyone as we never know what their journey has been. If we all start respecting each other’s decisions, way of life and outlook, then there will be less pressure on everyone and as a community or as a nation we will be happier people. I think everyone has a right to make mistakes and learn, so be it parents or relatives or friends or colleagues, we should respect the sentiments of each other and not try to impose our opinion only because it was the done thing or because what will people think or how would society react. We can definitely be suggestive if we feel someone close to us is making a mistake but we should again not impose our opinion and should still respect the final decision of the other even if it is contradictory to our thought process.
